About the Midwest Compact Commission
Founded under a formal interstate agreement ratified by Congress in the mid-1980s, the Midwest Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact brings together six U.S. states to share the responsibility of low-level radioactive waste management. As an interstate compact with a long history of collaboration, the Commission promotes public health, environmental protection, and equitable waste disposal solutions for our region.
